METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a warm and stringy mess. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. After that we slide the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal, we don’t use high pressure because that will sometimes ruin the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses more pressure than needed to clean commercial concrete. These surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal service.
